I was planning on buying in the DC area, but realized that I could get a beautiful mansion in Shamokin for less than a 1-Bedroom in DC. I work remotely, and the Internet here (through Service Electric) is the fastest and most reliable I've ever had. I've lived here for two years and am very happy with the small town pace of life and lower cost of living.

I'd been living in the DC area for 16 years, with the last 5 of those years being fully remote. I decided to take advantage of my fully remote status and moved to Shamokin for the lower cost of living after my friend convinced me that the town was a great place to live. I've particularly enjoyed the walkability, the friendliness of the people I've met, and fast internet connection speeds.
